Booyah® Bassinator Spinnerbait

Target Species: Largemouth Bass
Also Good For: Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye

The Bassinator spinnerbait is yet another arrow in the quill of arguably the industry leader in spinnerbaits: Booyah. I own and fish several Booyah spinnerbaits, so I was interested in finding out what made the Bassinator any different from the other Booyah spinnerbaits in my tackle box. For our review, I chose the 3/8 oz. in the Foxy or Sexy Shad color.

First Impressions

I've always been impressed with Booyah spinnerbaits and the new Bassinator model doesn't disappoint. The materials are of premium quality and include jewelry-quality polished blades with a ball bearing swivel. The weighted head is slightly elongated compared to most spinnerbaits of similar size and the full strand skirt has a larger bloom than typical. I also took note that the wire seems to have a greater flex and less memory than previous models.

Fishing the Lure

It's not often I take out a bait and write a review the same night. But that's precisely what happened after throwing this spinnerbait. I took the lure out to one of my favorite haunts: Kent Lake, Michigan. The sky was broken with fast moving showers and thunderstorms with a fairly steady 20 mph wind. The area I was fishing has dying vegetation mostly confined to thick, wind-blown mats. After tossing a few crankbaits and a Carolina rig, catching nothing but grass, I pulled out the Bassinator. Using the Sexy Shad color, I threw across the edge of the mats and nailed a keeper (released) on the 2nd cast.

I only had the better part of 2 hours fishing in between diving back into my truck between storm cells. However, in that short span, I had more action on the Booyah Bassinator than I've experienced since early May. Even with severely pressured water (which Kent Lake certainly is), I was getting taps every 5-6 cast or so with a solid hit every 15-20. Between the storms, I was able to land 3 largemouth estimated at 7 pounds total. Not tournament numbers, but not bad for just 100 or so casts on pressured water.

Review Summary

Spinnerbaits are a great mid-summer option and the Booyah Bassinator is the type of lure you can trust to pull the lunkers out of thick cover. The Bassinator skims over grass and other cover, with beautifully flashing blades and billowing skirt. At 3/8 oz. it casts long and strong. On the retrieve, you can feel the lure's vibration which is greater than the Booyah Blade (another great spinnerbait) and why we give it a 5 out of 5 for noise or vibration. Nothing is a better testimonial than actually catching fish, and although I was a bit skeptical about the large size at first, the Bassinator is the real deal.
