Blue Fox® Vibrax® Minnow Spin
Target Species: Trout
Also
Good For: Largemouth Bass, Sunfishes, Crappie
The Vibrax Minnow Spin by Blue Fox is a small lure and is essentially a modified in-line spinner with a molded, crankbait style body. For our reviews we used two colors: Spotted (Trout) and Fire Tiger in the 1/8 oz. size.
First Impressions
Even with the added crankbait body style, the Vibrax Minnow seems lighter than most in-line spinners of similar size. Despite the light weight, we found the lure to be well-constructed and the paint to be well detailed and high-quality. The lure is assembled with a slightly disproportionate-size single treble hook which, due to its larger size, leads us to believe this small lure can catch decent fish.
Fishing the Bait
Right away, we realized the lure casts very light requiring close monitoring of the line as wind knots can occur frequently if you don't pay attention. Second thing we noticed was that once you learned to handle the light cast, this lure gets hit by anything and everything. Primarily a shallow water lure, the spinner moves freely even at slow speeds and is excellent over shallow flats, shorelines and in streams.
Take this spinner into bluegill shallows during the early summer and you could easily land a bucketful if you wanted to.
I fished the Spotted Trout color off a neighbor's fishing dock one quiet, sunny Sunday afternoon in June and had to quit because of fatigue. I had more hits than not per cast, and landed some HUGE bluegills with a juvenile largemouth (8-12") on every 4th or 5th catch!
Being such an light lure makes the Vibrax Minnow Spin excellent for tight shallows and stream fishing. I have the most fun fishing this lure just downstream of two local dams where the wash meets the river. Cast this spinner just down water of the wash and you'll no doubt find trout and bass eagerly tugging at your line if they are there.
Review Summary
The Vibrax Minnow by Blue Fox is certainly well worth purchasing for shallow water. As with any light-weight lure, careful line monitoring is required to avoid wind knots, but once you get past that you'll find yourself using this lure time and time again. We also give this spinner additional points for durability and quality of construction. It's become a go-to in my tacklebox for shallow water, and in fact it is a permanent fixture — I take at least one with me wherever I fish. That said, the spinner continues to spin freely and all paint remains.
