Bass Pro Shops® XPS® Tri-Vibe Crankbait
Target Species: Largemouth Bass
Also
Good For: Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike
Recently, while looking to diversify my XPS collection of "bass attack" lures, I came across this looker on the BPS website. Not being a big fan of "shad-style" crankbaits, other options seemed more favorable, but no XPS lure has ever let me down and I didn't have anything else like it in the box, so I gave it a try.
First Impressions
Like most of our Bass Pro Shops XPS Series lures, I was immediately impressed with the solid construction, well-balanced body and exceptional color detail. This lure has great weight balance and hook-to-body ratio.
Fishing the Lure
Immediately off the bat, this crankbait casts exceptionally long and has a lovely shake during the retrieve. It is weighted in a way so that slight jigging during the retrieve can simulate a feeding shad pecking at the algae on the bottom. The Tri-Vibe also has internal rattle, driving bedding bass nuts. The combo of the rattle and flashy color make for a reactionary strike if using a slow jerk retrieve. This technique makes the shad appear wounded or as if glancing off rocks.
I found all type of fish attracted with Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike being the most interested.
The Tri-Vibe also provides the option of 3-different connection points - allowing you to tune the lure to your liking. Connect it in the rear-most position for less vibration and a deeper diver. Use the front most connection for maximum shake and a shallower run. Use the middle connection for somewhere in between.
Review Summary
The Bass Pro Shops Tri-Vibe Shad is just another piece of ammunition in the hunt for aggressive largemouths. Whether over rocks or in open water, this lure is just as effective as the other Bass Pro Shops XPS crankbaits we've reviewed and I usually carry this lure as a "go-to" option due to it's range and flexibility in water deeper than 6 feet.
