Heaven on earth awaits just a couple miles south of Hell (Michigan) on a late August morning on Pickerel Lake in the Pinckney Recreation Area. The sunset as seen from Barton Pond, just upstream of downtown Ann Arbor on the Huron River system. Locals say what's left of the Michigan football program is buried somewhere in the muck here. Another one of beautiful Pickerel Lake on a cool, late August morning. Canadian Geese scatter as we search for a fishing spot among the vegetation along the shore at Barton Pond in Ann Arbor.</p> A beautiful shot of the Largemouth Bass shallows along the Huron River a couple miles upstream of Ann Arbor. Michigan's best. A pristine, clear water lake in the heart of the wilderness. Would you believe this is only 40 miles NW of downtown Detroit?! Maybe we shouldn't tell anyone.
A majestic Blue Heron followed us along the shore as we fished the point at Kent Lake in late August. Judging by his behavior, he was hoping for a lost minnow or discarded catch. Northern Pike fishing at dusk, we almost missed this shot just after sunset because we we're so focused on nailing down the two near misses we had the previous casts. A mezmorizing maze of pines, many of these trees tower more than 80 feet in the Proud Lake Recreation Area just south of Big Bass Lake. The transition point where the Huron River meets Kent Lake just south of Milford. Plenty of largemouth and smallmouth bass spawning up here in the Spring and early Summer! Another summer evening watching the sun set at Kent Lake while tossing the Rapala for Smallmouth Bass just north of I-96 bridge. Spring Mill Pond in the Island State Recreation Area, where the water is so clear you can see trophy largemouth bass and trout in water 6 ft deep or more.
This path leads to frustrating largemouth bass fishing at Spring Mill Pond where the spring fed water is so clear, the fish actually "people-watch". A humid, early afternoon dodging summer thunderstorms while largemouth fishing on Kent Lake in Kennsington Metropark. A view of the clear waters of the Huron River just north of Ann Arbor downstream of the Barton Dam. Nature's reflection as seen in a Huron River tributary north of Ann Arbor. A picturesque cove where we were hoping to stumble upon a few bass, we found Swans instead among the lilly pads. What would Monet think? An unusually mild October afternoon with crystal clear water, clear skies, schooling shad and we're practically alone. It could have been a perfect day in Michigan, had the Michigan Wolverine football team not been playing Toledo during the time this photo was taken.
Couldn't resist this shot, as the bass weren't biting, and the view was amazing. Although it was a beautiful mild October morning, an approaching cool front wasn't far behind and the bass knew it. A chilly October afternoon with Fall colors forced the bass deep at clear, water Spring Mill Pond in the Island State Recreation Area. An Eastern Bluebird perched high above our heads as we fished along the shoreline of a quiet cove. An absolutely neon-colored Maple as Fall hits its peak in the Huron River basin. We encountered dozens of whitetail deer as we fished the shoreline. The same exact location along the Huron River basin as shown in the previous picture, we just turned the camera around. Super fall colors frame the Michigan sky in glorious shades of maize and blue.
